New York emcee Don Mykel is preparing to break out of the underground. After tearing down a freestyle on Sway in the Morning in 2016, he has been releasing music with a consistent, lyrical style. His delivery has maintained its fast paced style, but his newest project has some exceptions. On Infinite he toys with a few different sounds, but doesn’t fail to remind us why he is reminiscent of New York rap’s prime. This eight-track project sees him show off his impressive rapping abilities while he also gives us a look into his exceptional versatility. After releasing two track early as singles, we thought we could assume the sound of the whole project. We were happily wrong. Standouts from the project include the auto-tune induced banger “Lay Low” and “Euthanasia,” where he flexes his insane rapping and songwriting abilities.
To be blunt, Don Mykel will be a name to watch out for in the New York hip hop scene in the coming years. He has been grinding, but has the potential to develop his raw sound into something to appeal to the masses.
