Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar top Year-End Hip Hop Charts

As 2017 comes to a close, the Billboard chart year has ended and the publication has released its lists of the year’s most popular songs. The most popular artist of the year across all genres was Ed Sheeran, whose smash hit “Shape of You” was the year’s most popular song. Sheeran’s new single “Perfect”, a duet with Beyonce, is currently the biggest song in the country.

In the R&B/Hip Hop and Rap chart categories (Remember, Billboard counts the genres differently, but the same song can be in both categories), Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar lead the pack this year. Mars was the biggest R&B/Hip Hop artist this year while Lamar came in at number two on that list and was the biggest rap artist of 2017. The story is the same on the songs chart, where Mars’ “That’s What I Like” was the year’s biggest R&B/Hip Hop Hit, while Lamar‘s “Humble” was number two in that category and the biggest rap hit. Kendrick did win out on the albums charts, where his major project DAMN. was the biggest album of the year in both categories.

On the year end Hot 100, “That’s What I Like” came in third overall behind the aforementioned “Shape of You” and the bilingual summer smash “Despacito”. “Humble” was right behind, as the fourth biggest song of the year overall. Both hits spent some time at Number One on the Hot 100 earlier in the year.
